About this event
Discover the ancient art of belly dance and learn how movement can be both empowering and joyful. In this focused workshop series, Briel will guide you through the foundations of belly dance with a concentration on hip movements, helping you tap into your sacral space and build confidence and strength as you learn.
The class begins with a gentle yogic warmup and dance warm up to prepare the body. From there, you’ll explore fundamental belly dance hip movement techniques, including:
• Hip lifts and drops
• Interior and exterior hip circles
• Hip slides
• Hip bumps and lifts
• Hip figure 8s
• Hip taqsims and mayas
You’ll finish with a brief cool down to ground your practice. By the end of the workshop, students will leave with a repertoire of basic belly dance hip techniques, a greater sense of body awareness, and the joy of moving in new and expressive ways.
Briel Edmonds, a Baton Rouge-native, has been exploring the world of belly dancing for the last decade. Through other forms of meditation and intentional movements, she has connected her body and soul to deeper states of being and tapped into ancient knowledge and rituals. She offers this series of the art and flow of belly dancing to anyone who feels called to connect their body and spirit to ancient energy through dance.
