If you're planning your weekend around LSU, the Tigers come off the bye week at 6-2 after a 38-17 win at Auburn. They're still No. 15 in the AP Top 25 poll released Sunday, holding that spot ahead of Week 10 and going into the Alabama matchup. They're also 4.5-point favorites over Alabama, according to BetOnline Sports & Casino. Both teams have two losses, so a third would sting.

Alabama is the first of four November games. Texas comes to Baton Rouge on Nov. 14, then LSU travels to Tennessee and Arkansas. The Reveille's look at the stretch says Alabama is the target game for linebacker Whit Weeks' return from injury.

Storms could arrive late on Election Day, with cooler weather behind the front

If you're voting Tuesday, we suggest going earlier in the day. WAFB says the latest trend has low pressure moving farther north, leaving a chance of rain and a few isolated severe storms Tuesday night and early Wednesday, mainly north of the I-10/12 corridor.

40 to 50%chance of rain Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning

Gusty winds and brief heavy downpours are the main concerns, and precipitation will be hit and miss.

WBRZ says forecast guidance has pushed the stronger part of the system northward, so most locations should get less than a half inch of rain. Statewide, KPEL reports the Storm Prediction Center has most of Louisiana at a marginal risk for severe storms Tuesday.

  • Monday: cloudy and muggy, high near 80, low near 70
  • Tuesday: showers could start in the northwest by afternoon
  • After the front: highs in the 70s, lows in the 40s and 50s
  • Next weekend: another cold front is coming

Monday is quiet, and the front moves through overnight Tuesday into Wednesday

  1. Nov. 2Cloudy and muggy, with a high near 80 and a spotty shower possible
  2. Nov. 3Showers could start in the northwest by afternoon, with storms possible at night
  3. Nov. 4The front moves through early, and showers may linger in the morning before moving east

LSU basketball opens Tuesday with five of six players with eligibility questions able to play

Coach Will Wade called it a "calculated risk" to build a roster with six players who weren't guaranteed eligibility. It mostly paid off: five of them have nothing preventing them from playing in the season opener against LSU New Orleans on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

UCLA fifth-year transfer guards Donavan Dent and Skyy Clark got there through the courts. Dent was among more than 70 plaintiffs granted a preliminary injunction. On Friday, the Kentucky Court of Appeals denied the NCAA's request for an emergency stay in Clark's case. Attorney Emily Staker says nothing stops the NCAA from trying the same in Dent's.

Every year before Thanksgiving and Christmas, Lynn Allen makes the trip from her Northshore home to Maxwell's Market on Corporate Boulevard to pump out peanut butter pies. She's owner Matthew Landry's grandmother, and the staff greets her with "Maw Maw's here!" It's even stitched on her work polo. We'd say she's earned it.
