  • A memorial ride honoring fallen deputy Josh Dunaway took place on the highways of Gonzales Saturday morning—organizers held a benefit to support his family and celebrate his service as a motorcycle cop and devoted father.  WVLA
  • Councilman Darryl Hurst hosted his Third Annual Back-to-School Haircuts and Styles event on Sunday at the Charles R. Kelly Community Center, where local barbers provided free haircuts for youth to boost their confidence for the new semester (the community event supports school readiness).  WBRZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cajun Broadband, from Broussard, celebrated a completed broadband project in Abbeville on Tuesday, Dec. 9 with local officials and Gov. Landry’s video message; this fall the company will use ($18.2 million) in BEAD funds to connect 4,000 homes and businesses and boost rural internet across Acadiana.  The Advocate

CRIME NEWS

  • LSU running back JT Lindsey had all charges dropped on Wednesday, making him eligible to play while reportedly meeting with Lane Kiffin's staff and considering a move to the transfer portal (per Louisiana Sports Net).  WBRZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Southeastern will collect discarded Christmas trees for wetland restoration after the holidays (drop-off locations are set in Baton Rouge) to boost local environmental efforts.  WAFB 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The BR mayor’s office launched a Veteran of the Week initiative today in East Baton Rouge Parish to honor local veterans and recognize their service; the program will continue showcasing those who served their country.  WAFB 9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Blue Wave above-ground pools sold at major retailers have been recalled after a compression strap may provide footholds for children, posing a drowning risk as reported on Sunday, Jan. 4. Over 13,000 units were sold (Home Depot, Lowe’s, Amazon, Wayway and Walmart).  WBRZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Vanderbilt women's basketball beat LSU on Sunday in Nashville for a 65-61 win, marking LSU's second SEC loss. LSU will travel to Georgia on Thursday for their next game.  WBRZ
  • On Sunday, Jan. 4, the Saints lost 19-17 to the Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, ending the season at a 6-11 record. Rookie Tyler Shough’s late interception helped create a three-way tie that pushed Carolina into the playoffs.  WAFB 9
