  • Federal prosecutors charged 26 people (including a former LSU basketball player) in a point-shaving scheme that fixed games in the NCAA and CBA, with alleged bribe payments ranging from $10,000 to $30,000 per game.  WBRZ

  • Boomerang Comedy Theatre in Baton Rouge offers stand-up and improv shows along with classes that build a vibrant creative community. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The LSU Faculty Senate met Jan. 14 at Dalton J. Woods Auditorium to debate a change to course evaluations cutting 20 questions to eight, update online grade remediation rules, and improve the travel registry for emergency tracking; the Senate will reconvene Feb. 12.  LSU Reveille

  • LSU researchers are partnering with colleagues from neighboring states to use weevils against invasive salvinia today in Baton Rouge waterways, with federal funding backing their work + new techniques to protect local ecosystems.  WAFB 9

  • Senators John Thune (R-S.D.) and Bill Cassidy (R-Louisiana) met today at a Baton Rouge oyster bar to discuss a federal tax break for tipped workers that allows servers to deduct up to $25,000 from their income. Local hospitality staff have noted the relief this measure could bring.  WBRZ

  • Louisiana Marathon returns to Baton Rouge this weekend to celebrate its 15th year with a Friday night expo at Raising Cane's River Center Ballroom, Saturday races including the Window World Louisiana Quarter Marathon and Blue Kid's Marathon, and full and half marathons on Sunday starting at 660 North 4th Street.  WBRZ
