- ➤ LSU Veterinary Medicine students Baylee Weems and Madison Vicknair cared for Mike VII, the only live tiger mascot in the U.S., on Monday, Jan. 19 at LSU’s habitat in Baton Rouge. - ➤ A $75 million Jones Creek Road project is underway to ease traffic by connecting Tiger Bend Road to Airline Highway. Officials say the new four-lane road — with multi-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists — will reduce congestion, and construction will take several years. WBRZ

- ➤ State health officials shared upcoming changes at the annual department meeting on Wednesday. Starting January 1, adult Medicaid recipients must complete 80 hours of work, school, training or volunteer service, and from February 18, SNAP benefits can no longer be used to buy soft drinks, candy or junk food.
