  • The Krewe of Southdowns will host its 39th annual parade on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. (rain or shine) along a route starting at Glasgow Avenue near Glasgow Middle School that features the 'Southdowns Vacation' theme and off-route parking available.  WVLA

  • Robert Myer said the Krewe of Chemin Neuf parade (set for January 31) will roll in New Roads, with more route details expected as the event approaches.  WAFB 9
  • Zachary is hosting its first Mardi Gras event as NewsKrewe of Chemin Neuf will roll on January 31. Frank Corcoran and Britney Hurst Temple described the celebration's family-friendly vibe that aims to bring the community together.  WAFB 9

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delta Utilities launched the DU Cares program today to help customers in East Baton Rouge with rising natural gas bills by offering up to $250 in aid, with $200,000 available (via its foundation) after sharp bill increases were reported following the Entergy transfer. United Way is partnering to administer applications at multiple locations.  WBRZ

  • Plaquemine residents report persistent vibrations in the historic district blamed on flaring from a barge-cleaning operation, prompting parish leaders to set a 30-day review and plan a public hearing if the issue continues. HEALTH NEWS

  • Parents in St. Mary Parish were invited by Pennington Biomedical’s Greaux Healthy initiative to learn about combating childhood obesity at the St. Mary Parish Health Unit (1200 David Drive) on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Experts on the Healthy Moves tour bus provided nutrition guidance to address the growing obesity challenge.  WBRZ
  • Lane Regional Medical Center is opening its new Health & Wellness Clinic at 4801 McHugh Road, Suite A in Zachary to offer mental health services for all ages. Two experienced psychiatric nurse practitioners, Katherine Perkins and Kathy Sterling, are now accepting new patients.  The Advocate

  • DIG Baton Rouge is hosting its annual Restaurant Week through Friday, Jan. 31, with local restaurants offering prix-fixe menus at a fraction of their normal prices. Diners can explore new food spots during the event.  WBRZ

  • LSU baseball unveiled a new Intimidator billboard at Alex Box Stadium on Wednesday, Jan. 28, marking its eighth championship win in 2025. The sign (showing all College World Series titles and a roaring Mike the Tiger) comes over two weeks before the season opener on Feb. 13 at 2 p.m.  WBRZ
  • Jackson DeSalvo from Zachary earned a gold medal in the novice division and a silver medal in the open division at the United States Junior Open Championship in Oklahoma. His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training and recent wrestling experience at Baton Rouge Training Center helped him succeed at the national tournament.  The Advocate
  • LSU women's basketball showed improvement in a game on Monday, Jan. 26 when newcomers displayed steady defense and teamwork, and head coach Kim Mulkey said players like Jada Richard, Milaysia Fulwiley and Amiya Joyner are building trust in the system through small plays that lead to big wins.  LSU Reveille
