  • Oscar-winning Viola Davis will film Amazon’s detective thriller Ally Clark at Baton Rouge’s Celtic Studios from April 6 to June 1. The film follows a detective investigating her friend’s suspicious death (a story that spans local bayous and Washington, D.C.).  WAFB 9
  • The Krewe of Denham Springs parade will roll from Denham Springs High School along Range Avenue to Veterans Boulevard starting at 3 p.m. this weekend in Livingston Parish (celebrating its 46th year and honoring the Cajun Navy 2016 for their Flood of 2016 service).  WBRZ
  • Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser congratulated local Donnie Dean from Spectrum FX on Jan. 29 for his Oscar nomination in Best Visual Effects for Sinners (filmed entirely in Louisiana), a film that earned a record 16 nods. The recognition spotlights our local film industry.  WVLA

  • Delta Utilities announced Wednesday that it will offer DU Cares to aid local gas customers managing higher bills by paying up to $250 directly — with United Way reviewing applications from qualified households using an initial $200,000 fund for 2026.  The Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Farmers in Livingston and Tangipahoa parishes have prepared for this weekend’s freezing forecast by removing covers to feed and re-cover strawberry plants (a crucial step to protect blooms for fruit development). The cold is expected Friday night through Sunday morning and may impact the harvest.  The Advocate

  • A polar plunge over the weekend is expected to bring lower temperatures that may lead to an increase in winter fires; state fire officials advise residents to test and replace smoke alarm batteries, keep space heaters away from flammable materials, and create a fire escape plan.  WAFB 9
  • Beginning Sunday, travelers without REAL ID will pay a $45 fee at Louisiana airports for a 10-day travel period + may face extra screening delays if they don’t prepay; residents can schedule REAL ID appointments at OMV to avoid long waits.  The Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • State Fire Marshal Chief Bryan Adams urged residents to check smoke alarms and stay safely warm amid subfreezing weather after five house fires occurred in the capital region (homes without working detectors contributed to the fatalities).  WBRZ
  • LSU researchers have patented a treatment that uses staph bacteria's protein to kill cancer cells while sparing healthy ones. The team received a $379,000 NIH grant and will next test the approach in mouse models.  The Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU Soccer Head Coach Sian Hudson signed an extension through 2029 after driving the team to a record 13-game unbeaten streak and an NCAA tournament appearance. The move comes as the Tigers prepare for a strong 2026 season (LSU AD Verge Ausberry praised her leadership).  LSU Reveille
