- ➤ Fifty 4-H members competed at Lewis Vincent Elementary in Denham Springs during the Food Festival (82 dishes in 18 contests). First-place winners in seafood, beef, poultry, egg, sugar, Louisiana commodities, and wild game (earning a spot at the Regional Cookery Contest in Walker in May) will advance. The Advocate

- ➤ Cremmjoy is set to test its minimal cleaning soft serve machine in local kitchens next year, with a market release planned for 2027. The Baton Rouge company has raised almost $3 million for the innovation (which uses a plastic bag to keep mix away from the machine) and aims to shake up the frozen treat industry. The Advocate

- ➤ 225 Fest returns in Baton Rouge to celebrate local food+music+art with community vendors and live performances. The festival will highlight the city's creative pulse and bring neighbors together for a lively day. WAFB 9
- ➤ During Black History Month, Baton Rouge’s Walls Project is installing vibrant murals to celebrate African American history at sites including LSU College of Art and Design. Two new installations on utility boxes along the Greenway Trail will be unveiled on Feb. 20 (as part of a new Civil Rights Trail initiative) to honor Louisiana’s cultural legacy. WBRZ
- ➤ The inaugural Zachary Mardi Gras parade honored everyday heroes—teachers, first responders, and community members—along Church Street on Sunday with floats and music, as attendees shared how small acts of heroism shine in everyday life. WBRZ

- ➤ At a Feb. 10 meeting, the Zachary Community School Board raised tuition (from $450 to $550) and registration fees (from $60 to $75) at its early learning center while extending Superintendent Necaise’s contract through 2028. The board set a June 27 election for a tax measure to fund teacher and staff pay raises. The Advocate

- ➤ LSU researchers helped create the DASH diet, named best heart-healthy and second-best overall by national rankings for the second year, which uses menus with more potassium, magnesium, and calcium + lower sodium to help reduce blood pressure. LSU Reveille
