  • Residents in Port Allen hosted the annual Wild Game Cookout where teams from East and West Baton Rouge parishes gathered for cooking, fresh food, and auctions. The fundraiser benefited the Dream Day Foundation (supporting patients and families at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital).  WBRZ

  • A fire (reported on Saturday, Mar. 7 at 12:33 p.m.) broke out at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge in the Port Allen area; emergency crews responded to secure the site.  WAFB 9

  • South Louisiana businesses announced leadership changes with new hires and promotions. Baton Rouge General hired Dr. Nathan Quin for its Prairieville location (with similar updates at Emergent Method, Guaranty Corp, Hancock Whitney, Louisiana Blue, LSU and Neel Schaffer) to boost local operations.  The Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • East Baton Rouge Parish schools are considering expanding start times after a pilot program produced fewer suspensions, improved grades + better attendance. A public meeting is scheduled on Mar. 17 at Belaire High School to gather community feedback.  WJBO
  • Knock Knock Children’s Museum in East Baton Rouge Parish is hosting a summer art camp for children to learn and create art + the program features hands-on projects that spark creativity and exploration.  WAFB 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport held its tri-annual disaster simulation Saturday to test emergency procedures and coordination among responders, hosted by BTR Aircraft and Fire Fighting (a federally required drill).  WBRZ
  • Baton Rouge airport held an emergency training drill (using a simulated plane crash) today to test its response protocols.  WAFB 9

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU lost its regular season finale in triple overtime to Texas A&M after Max Mackinnon missed an open three (the Tigers now stand at 15-16 overall and will begin SEC tournament play on Wednesday, March 11 in Nashville).  WBRZ
  • LSU baseball struggled in game two against Sacramento State when the team managed just one hit in the first seven innings and finished with three hits despite a late rally that featured a bottom-of-the-eighth run burst and a ninth-inning homer by Daniel Harden.  WBRZ
