- ➤ Knock Knock Children's Museum in East Baton Rouge Parish will host Crash Creatives in July, a summer art camp series for kids. The week-long sessions offer hands-on art activities like painting and drawing + lessons on famous artists and require preregistration. WJBO
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 struck north of Coushatta on Monday, Mar. 9 at 4:41 a.m. as an aftershock to last week’s 4.9 quake, and officials reported no injuries or damage. WBRZ
- ➤ Heavy storms flooded parts of the capital region last Saturday night and into Sunday, leaving yards underwater in Denham Springs and cars stranded along Burbank Drive (with local services, including the fire department and rideshare drivers, helping residents). WBRZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A section of Bluff Road between Serenity Lake Lane and Alligator Bayou Road is closed until May 4 for repairs, DOTD said Tuesday, March 10th. Crews are fixing failing culverts at Jim Bayou and drivers should use the posted detours. WBRZ
- ➤ The intersection of Highland Road and Chimes Street near LSU is closed as crews repair the roadway until Sunday, Mar. 15 at 6 p.m.; drivers must use alternate routes via Dalrymple Drive to East State Street or Lake Street to West State Street. WBRZ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Acadian Ambulance reminds Baton Rouge residents to display clear house numbers so emergency crews can locate homes quickly. The service advises using at least 4-inch high-contrast numbers near the front entrance or on the mailbox. WBRZ
- ➤ Consumer Reports today reveals that many everyday personal care products contain chemicals linked to cancer risk & hormone disruption. Baton Rouge residents are urged to check labels and use online tools to find safer products. WAFB 9
- ➤ During Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, local doctors emphasize the need for early screening for colorectal cancer, especially for those under 50. They say early detection can prompt timely treatment & improve outcomes. WAFB 9
