  • On Thursday, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated 40,000 pounds of shelf-stable food to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank as part of America250, a nationwide drive to support food banks, with delivery this morning to help address local food insecurity.  WBRZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Louisiana officials and industry leaders are debating whether online prediction markets should follow local gambling laws. The platforms let residents wager on events including the local primary race, yet regulators warn that if they do not comply, more legal action is expected.  The Advocate

  • The Wearin’ of the Green Parade (St. Patrick’s) will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday from Hundred Oaks Boulevard and South Acadian Thruway, passing through the Garden District before ending at Perkins Road and Stanford Avenue; the National Weather Service forecasts clear, sunny skies with a high near 76.  The Advocate

  • A student (maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA) won a car at the Raise the Bar, Win a Car giveaway in Baton Rouge, which celebrated juniors and seniors for their academic achievements.  WAFB 9
  • East Baton Rouge EMS will hold six mandatory information sessions for prospective EMTs — sessions begin Thursday evening to prepare for a 13-week training course starting June 8.  WAFB 9
  • Acadian Ambulance will hold an informational session for its EMT training classes on Thursday evening, and the 13-week course series will begin on June 8 (as outlined by Brian Cowart).  WAFB 9
  • LSU’s Project 225 connects honors students with local seniors at Oak Park Plaza through monthly bingo and game nights, and the involvement fair offers sign-up opportunities for volunteering & leadership growth.  LSU Reveille

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A long-vacant car wash on Scotland Avenue was demolished on Thursday as part of District 2's ongoing effort against blight; Councilman Anthony Kenney said the move opens the door for future redevelopment in the area.  WBRZ
  • State Sen. Robert Allain proposed SB244 allowing recreational alligator hunting with required licenses and separate tags; the bill passed the Natural Resources Committee and will be discussed on the Senate floor on Monday, March 16 — if approved, it will take effect Aug. 1.  WBRZ

  • Baton Rouge eateries are serving viral soft-serve margaritas at Boru Ramen and Casa Maria's Watson, while pizza shops will celebrate Pi Day tomorrow with special deals. Middendorf’s Seafood will debut a pop-up at Passé Restaurant from March 17–20 and 24–27, and food fests are planned for March 21 and 22.  225 Magazine

  • Baton Rouge teen Baron Baker (17) broke three American weightlifting records last weekend at a national competition in Columbus after overcoming lengthy flight delays; he dedicated his achievement to his late father who inspired his quick rise.  WBRZ
  • LSU women's basketball star Flau’jae Johnson was honored by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund as Servant Leader of the Year with a $25,000 grant to support cancer care for under-resourced Baton Rouge women. The award recognizes her exceptional leadership on and off the court.  WBRZ
