ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Louisiana State Police Troopers investigated three fatal crashes overnight that resulted in four deaths after a speeding pursuit led to a head-on collision on LA 30, a rollover occurred on LA 70 near Donaldsonville, and a collision happened on I-10 near Prairieville—each case remains under investigation.  WAFB 9
  • Baton Rouge Fire Department confirmed one death in a house fire on Thursday morning on Bunker Hill Drive near Congress Boulevard — the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.  WAFB 9
  • A crash on Nicholson Drive left one person dead and two others hurt on Wednesday, March 12—emergency crews responded to the scene.  WAFB 9

CRIME NEWS

  • A new study from the Baton Rouge Area Foundation shows that early help for boys who have trouble in school could lower the city's high murder rate — it found that most young men convicted of murder did not finish high school and grew up in poor neighborhoods.  WBRZ
  • Baton Rouge authorities reported that two people died when a high-speed pursuit in St. Gabriel ended in a head-on crash on Bluebonnet Boulevard and Nicholson Drive—both victims were in the fleeing vehicle that ran a red light before colliding with another car.  WBRZ
  • Baton Rouge police and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office caught a suspect on Jefferson Highway near Stumberg Lane during a manhunt for a rapist who broke into a home and raped a person, which led to a brief lockdown at nearby schools.  WBRZ

  • On Friday, The Hunchback of Notre Dame plays at the Sullivan Theater from 7:30 to 10 p.m. with tickets starting at $28.50 and Much Ado About Nothing runs at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, Earlapalooza takes place at Uncle Earl’s from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and a St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl starts at 4 p.m., while Sunday offers the free Wearin’ of the Green Parade at noon—celebrating its 40th anniversary with nearly 70 decorated floats.  225 Magazine

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local meteorologists warn that strong storms could bring hurricane-force winds, large hail and dangerous tornadoes to Baton Rouge and New Orleans starting Saturday. The Storm Prediction Center set a moderate risk and parade cancellations have already been announced—residents should stay alert and follow weather updates.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • House Speaker Phillip DeVillier asked state officials to add a new wing at the Pentagon Barracks—an old legislative housing complex in Baton Rouge—to provide extra apartments and fix water damage. The project would cost about $10 million extra over a planned $31 million, and it must be approved by the Legislature and the State Historic Preservation Office.  The Advocate
