COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents facing abuse can now file for protective orders at any local library through the Accessing Justice Initiative, which lets them submit a simplified form that is sent directly to the Clerk of Court & processed for same-day service. The program was launched last October to make legal help more accessible with trained staff available to assist survivors.  The Advocate
  • Free cooking demonstrations are returning at Main Street Market downtown, offering locals hands-on recipe demos from local chefs (event times to be announced).  WAFB 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historic (True Friends) Hall, once a lively venue for acts like Fats Domino, is set to be restored by the River Road African American Museum into a modern community hub with indoor and outdoor performance spaces (designed to reopen by the end of 2027 pending matching funds).  The Advocate
  • Baton Rouge dance instructor Mason Bettis, who has danced for 26 years and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 12, now inspires young dancers to chase their dreams while managing her condition. She uses modern technology to monitor her levels and shows that challenges can lead to growth.  WBRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School will host its annual speakeasy auction at the Sacred Heart Parish Activity Center on March 21 at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature food, jazz music, and themed auction items to support student programs (including technology upgrades and playground equipment).  WBRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • LSU Student Government elections for President and Vice President (for 2026-2027) run March 19-20; students will get a Tiger Link email at 7:30 p.m. on Election Day. Candidates began campaigning on March 16 and will debate on March 18 at Nicholson and Coates Halls, with results set for March 25.  LSU Reveille

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Luke's Episcopal Church hosted a youth mental health dinner and discussion Sunday evening in Baton Rouge to promote mental, emotional, and physical well-being among young adults. The event aimed to show that no one is alone when facing mental health challenges.  WBRZ
  • Residents in Roseland must boil their water after officials issued an advisory Sunday night over potential contamination concerns.  WBRZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU women's basketball will play No. 15 Jacksonville in the first round of the NCAA tournament at the Maravich Center. The No. 2 seeded Tigers learned their matchup on Selection Sunday and will host additional games next week for fans.  WBRZ
  • LSU softball lost 3-2 to Texas A&M Saturday night — a result that dropped the team to 0-5 in SEC play. Coach Beth Torina praised Cece Cellura’s full seven-inning start, and the Tigers will play the final game of the series Monday at 6:00 p.m.  WBRZ
  • LSU and Southern University are hosting NCAA Tournament Selection Show watch parties on Sunday (LSU's event at the PMAC and Southern's at TJ Ribs) with doors opening at 6 p.m. ahead of ESPN's 7 p.m. broadcast.  WBRZ
  • LSU baseball avoided a sweep against Vanderbilt as the Tigers beat the Commodores 16-9 in game three, with junior Jake Brown hitting a key three-run homer+ the team is 14-7 overall and 1-2 in the SEC and will host Grambling on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.  WBRZ
