  • East Baton Rouge Parish has 16 senior activity centers and 4 feeding sites that help about 6,000 seniors each week — the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging runs programs offering healthy meals, quilting, pool games, and tutoring to keep older adults active and connected.  225 Magazine

CRIME NEWS

  • A Baton Rouge district judge halted death row inmate Jessie Hoffman's planned execution for tonight pending a hearing scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today — the order stops Secretary Wescott from using nitrogen hypoxia, which Hoffman's attorneys say violates his religious rights.  WAFB 9
  • Ronn Jermaine Bell, accused of killing civil rights activist Sadie Roberts-Joseph, had his trial postponed until June 2 after defense lawyers got new email evidence less than 48 hours before the hearing—Judge Brad Myers ruled that Bell deserves more time to check the leads.  The Advocate

  • Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge celebrated a historic milestone over the weekend by delivering its 400,000th baby — hospital CEO Rene Ragas said the baby was delivered early Saturday morning. The achievement reflects the hospital’s long commitment to women’s health since it opened in 1968 — marking a proud moment in its legacy.  WVLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU Women’s Basketball was announced as the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday evening and will host first- and second-round games in the PMAC. The team will play No. 14 San Diego State in the first round on Saturday with tip times set later this week.  WAFB 9
  • The Zachary High girls basketball team won the state title on March 8 at the University Center in Hammond by defeating Parkway and ending a drought dating back to 1927. Coach Tami McClure said the team worked hard all season—Tiarra McPipe earned MVP honors with 17 points as the Broncos took command in the fourth quarter.  The Advocate
  • Two former LSU football stars signed historic NFL deals as Chase secured a four-year contract for $161 million and Stingley earned a three-year contract for $90 million—each becoming the highest paid in his role.
