- ➤ St. Aloysius Catholic Church hosted its annual St. Joseph’s Altar on March 19 with a Feast Mass at 8 a.m. and public viewing from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., honoring the patron saint with elaborate decorations and specially designed breads (including fig cookies) that celebrated community remembrance. - ➤ Southern University is celebrating 146 years this March with events honoring its legacy on the Bluff. The investiture of Chancellor John K. Pierre is scheduled for March 27 at 10 a.m. at the F.G. Clark Activity Center — further celebrations will continue throughout the month. WAFB 9
- ➤ Sen. Patrick McMath proposed a bill to add $15M a year for intensive tutoring that will now cover K-8 students failing assessments in reading, English, numeracy & math. The bill advanced in a Senate committee on Wednesday as state leaders back the effort to extend support after strong recovery gains. WBRZ
- ➤ LSU held its second annual Custodial Appreciation Week in March to honor custodial staff with complimentary meals, raffles, and free baseball tickets at games against Grambling and Oklahoma State (organized by the LSU Student Senate with support from campus sponsors). LSU Reveille

- ➤ The Amite River Basin Commission announced that a former sand and gravel mine in St. Helena Parish will be restored as a flood control site to reduce flood pressures, improve water quality, and create wildlife habitat. Restoration work will begin in the coming months. WAFB 9

- ➤ The state signed a $40,000-a-month lease on the closed Baton Rouge furniture store (sparking hope for new local activity). Officials expect the deal to revitalize the property. WAFB 9
