  • Taste of Mid City will take place on Sunday, March 22 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., offering food samples from 13 local restaurants with live music by the Kids' Orchestra while proceeds support its community programs.  225 Magazine
  • On March 20, Capital Area United Way and Women United hosted a Women Empowering Women event in Baton Rouge offering on-site job interviews and a panel with local female leaders (supporting career advancement), and organizers will host the Celebrate the Power of Women Awards on May 7.  WBRZ

  • Jerry Seinfeld will perform at River Center Theatre on Saturday, July 11 at 8 p.m.* Tickets go on sale Friday, Mar. 27 at 10 a.m. and his set promises a lively night of laughter for local fans.  WAFB 9
  • Crawfête returns tomorrow, March 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Live Oak at Cedar Lodge with over 25 local vendors, live music, and crawfish contests. The event will also showcase cooking demos and efforts to support childhood nutrition.  225 Magazine
  • Legendary comedian Jerry Seinfeld will perform his newest stand-up routine in Baton Rouge at the River Center Theatre on July 11 at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 17 at 10 a.m. (prices start at $68.50 and can be purchased via Ticketmaster or the River Road Box Office).  WBRZ
  • The Red Beans and Rice Heritage and Music Festival began Friday at Rhorer Plaza downtown and runs through Sunday, March 22, celebrating statewide Red Beans and Rice Day with local food and live music.  WAFB 9

  • Southern University has hired TM2 Executive Search to lead its search for a new president — the firm, led by Amanda Washington Lockett, will shortlist candidates by May 14 with a new leader set by July 1.  The Advocate
  • Southern University System interim president Orlando McMeans requested $19 million in a one-time investment from state lawmakers to offset a $1.2 billion funding gap with LSU (the funds will be used to enhance campus security, IT systems, and student recruitment).  WBRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • BREC Commission Chairman Michael A. Polito stated on Thursday that several Baton Rouge parks are being closed as part of a multi-year, data-driven initiative approved by voters; the sales proceeds will be reinvested locally to enhance parks + recreational facilities. The obsolete properties include Alexander Street Park, Belfair Park, and others.  WBRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Consumer Reports advises that a consistent sleep routine, with daily sunlight, exercise, and healthy foods, improves sleep quality. Experts add that a proper sleep setup, such as well-chosen mattresses + pillows, helps lower chronic illness risks and boosts overall well-being.  WAFB 9

  • LSU women's basketball star Flau’jae Johnson readies for her final NCAA tournament weekend at home. Coach Kim Mulkey praised her strong play and community spirit (she helped the team win a national title in 2023) and expects a full house at the PMAC game.  WAFB 9
  • LSU women’s basketball broke records last Friday at their campus in a first-round NCAA win, beating Jacksonville 116 to 58. The Tigers tied their record for 100-point games and set a new mark for most tournament points in a game.  LSU Reveille
