COMMUNITY NEWS

  • BREC is moving forward with long-term improvements at City-Brooks Community Park, including changes to the historic nine-hole golf course, after gathering feedback that shows community concern. Public input is being accepted until April 17 + a meeting is scheduled on April 22 for Baton Rouge residents to share their views.  WBRZ
  • St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge has launched a public fundraising campaign to rebuild after a devastating 2024 fire & officials invite community donations to help restore the church.  WAFB 9
  • LSU sororities and fraternities partnered with Habitat for Humanity during Greek Week to build a home for a family in Gardere last Sunday. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for next week to honor the project.  WBRZ
  • Donations are being accepted to cover travel costs for the family and fellow officers who plan to attend National Police Week in Washington (DC) this May to honor fallen Sgt. Caleb Eisworth, who served 23 years before dying in August 2025.  WAFB 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Live After Five organizers announced the spring 2026 concert series downtown starting Friday, April 10 — a six-week series featuring Michael Foster Project, Nathan and The Zydeco Cha Chas, The Rumble, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Ambush Reggae Band, and Rouge Krewe. Fans should bring lawn chairs for the free event.  WAFB 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Belaire High and its five feeder schools will start classes 80 minutes later, reaching an 8:30 a.m. start (for nearly 600 students) as part of a districtwide pilot approved today; further schedule changes are set for fall 2027 and fall 2028 following mixed results from earlier adjustments.  The Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU women's basketball defeated Texas Tech 101-47 to advance to the Sweet 16 thanks to a 10-0 run and a strong third quarter—24-point efforts from Mikaylah Williams and Flau'jae Johnson propelled the team—and will face the winner of Duke and Baylor on Friday at the Sacramento 2 Regional.  WBRZ
  • Southern Lady Jaguars' season ended after a loss of 103 to 34 against top-ranked South Carolina Saturday in Columbia. The team finished a 20 to 14 record while winning the SWAC tournament and an NCAA First Four game (they struggled with turnovers throughout the game).  WAFB 9
  • LSU softball won its first SEC series on Friday night with a 2-1 victory over South Carolina as Tori Edwards hit a vital two-run double — the Tigers improved to a 21-10 record and will face Louisiana Tech Tuesday and No. 5 Oklahoma over the weekend.  WBRZ
