BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hyundai announced that it will build a new $5.8 billion steel mill in Ascension Parish+ the project is expected to create local jobs and boost regional industry.  WAFB 9

CRIME NEWS

  • Baton Rouge Police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Sunday, March 23 at about 4:30 p.m. on the 4300 block of Monroe Avenue near Adams Avenue—22-year-old Jalen Lee was killed and another man was critically injured at the scene.  WAFB 9
  • Ian Seghers, 34, was captured Saturday, March 22 in Ocean Springs after a tip led a canine search — Baton Rouge detectives say he is linked to his stepfather's disappearance and he will be extradited soon.  WAFB 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • On March 22, the 20th annual Zapp’s International Beerfest took place at the LSU Rural Life Museum—where visitors sampled over 200 beers as a fundraiser to support museum research, education and preservation. The event drew about 2,000 attendees with volunteers managing the festival founded by Ron Zappe.  LSU Reveille

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Water Sector Program allocated $750M under the American Rescue Plan Act to fix failing water and sewer systems in Louisiana. The program completed round two with nearly $300M awarded and will spend the funds by February 2026—local grants include $5M each for East Baton Rouge and Ascension sewers—supporting needed repairs statewide.  WBRZ
