  • On Saturday, the Lane Foundation's Code Red Chili and Salsa Cook-Off celebrated its 10th anniversary in downtown Zachary with 19 teams competing plus live music from Scenic Highway Band, Chris Leblanc and Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. and The Zydeco Twisters. Proceeds will support a $90 million patient tower expansion at Lane Foundation Hospital plus include a new four story tower and interior renovations.  The Advocate

  • Hyundai will build its first North American steel facility near Donaldsonville on sugar cane fields to create a fully integrated American supply chain that will support its automotive operations across the United States. CRIME NEWS

  • Corey Breaux was shot three times while defending his daughter from a group of teenagers on Newcastle Avenue last Tuesday — he has been hospitalized and investigators are searching for the teenager who fired the gun.  WBRZ
  • Baton Rouge police arrested Leroy Gibson—wanted for allegedly strangling and slapping a pregnant woman—and Michael Seals on March 19 during a home search on Washington Avenue, with Gibson facing charges for domestic abuse battery using strangulation and Seals charged for drug and firearm possession.  WBRZ
  • Baton Rouge rapper NBA YoungBoy was released from an Alabama federal prison and transferred to a residential reentry management office in Arizona on March 25 — he awaits a full release on April 26.  WBRZ

  • Louisiana students applying for federal college aid dropped 12% this school year after the state ended its requirement for high school seniors to complete the FAFSA—officials worry the decline may lower college enrollment and reduce Pell grant awards.  The Advocate
