COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Early bird ticket sales for Driving the Future campaign ended yesterday, with $50 tickets offering a chance to win a new Lexus vehicle & a $5,000 cash prize; the 16th fundraiser has raised over $16 million for patients at OLOL Children's Hospital.  WAFB 9
  • Last Wednesday marked the final day for early bird $50 tickets to the 16th Driving the Future raffle, which supported patient care at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital and offered a chance to win one of five 2026 Lexus vehicles or a $5,000 cash prize.  WAFB 9
  • Courts across the parish will host a community warrant resolution clinic Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. downtown to clear active warrants for eligible traffic, misdemeanor, nonviolent felony, and family cases (charges like violent felonies are excluded) with public defenders available.  WBRZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chase is building a new branch near Burbank & Lee that will offer extra offices and meeting spaces and will open April 6, replacing its longtime location at 7346 Highland Road near LSU. Twelve people will work at the new branch.  The Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LSU School of Theatre is now LSU School of Theatre and Film after the Louisiana Board of Regents approved the change on Tuesday. The new name takes effect immediately as officials update materials to reflect a growing film program alongside theater.  The Advocate
  • On Tuesday, March 24, the Louisiana Board of Regents approved accelerated bachelor’s programs in bioinformatics and information technology at LSU Alexandria and a new B.S. in Artificial Intelligence at LSU in Baton Rouge, offering 90-hour pathways that prepare students for high-demand careers.  WAFB 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bills to allow a recreational alligator hunting season from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31 advanced in a House Natural Resources and Environment Committee; the proposal includes a lottery for licenses with fee revenue funding the state Conservation Fund and will move forward for debate.  WBRZ
  • Courts across the parish will hold a warrant resolution clinic on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Baton Rouge—public defenders will help eligible individuals clear active warrants and set new court dates for nonviolent cases including traffic, misdemeanor, and family matters.  WBRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medicaid rule changes will challenge healthcare access for many state-recognized Native American tribes who must meet new work requirements and reverify coverage every six months — tribal leaders warn that families might soon face hard choices between health care and other basic needs.  WBRZ
  • A family history of colon cancer can increase risk, and local health officials urge awareness at Saturday’s Get Your Rear in Gear run/walk — held at Pennington Biomedical Center. The event will explain risk factors to help residents understand their health better.  WBRZ

  • The Saints added free agent quarterback Zach Wilson on March 25 to serve as backup to Tyler Shough — Wilson spent last season with the Dolphins and is known for his New York Jets play with 6,325 yards and 23 touchdowns.  WBRZ
  • Two LSU sophomores earned top SEC awards in gymnastics and joined six teammates on the 2026 All-SEC Team, boosting the program's all-time total to 128 honors. Kailin Chio was named SEC Gymnast of the Year and Kaliya Lincoln earned SEC Co-Specialist of the Year (the ninth award for LSU).  WBRZ
  • Beth Torina scored her 600th win Tuesday, Mar. 24 when LSU Softball beat Louisiana Tech 9-0 at Tiger Park; the Tigers now have a 27-game win streak and will face Oklahoma in Baton Rouge Friday at 6 p.m.  WAFB 9
