  • LSU’s Lighthouse Program held its second annual Believe March on March 25 as students and faculty in matching grey shirts silently marched near Cypress Hall to support sexual assault survivors in advance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The event, led by Associate Director Natalie Walton, drew about 100 participants who showed their solidarity for those in need.  LSU Reveille

  • Loft18, a Louisiana chain of sports bars, will open its largest location in a 14,000 square feet space that used to be Drago’s near I-10 and College Drive this May. The restaurant will serve TVs, wings, beer + six high-tech simulation bays for games like golf, baseball, basketball and darts while employing about 30 to 40 people.  The Advocate

CRIME NEWS

  • Two 15-year-old teens were arrested Thursday by Baton Rouge homicide detectives for a Sunday shooting on Monroe Avenue that killed a 22-year-old man and critically wounded a 21-year-old man around 4:40 p.m.—they were booked into the Juvenile Detection Center on counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and illegal use of a weapon.  The Advocate

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Louisiana's deepwater ports face a tough challenge recapturing container shipping business lost to rivals as a new report from Martin Associates shows that major infrastructure investments and economic development wins are needed. Officials in Baton Rouge noted that without projects like the proposed Louisiana International Terminal + new road links, the ports may continue to struggle to match competitors’ growth.  The Advocate

  • On April 5, residents in East Baton Rouge will have a chance to drop off hazardous materials that are hard to get rid of. The collection day will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Touchdown Village on LSU's campus — visitors must bring water, a valid state ID, and their items for safe disposal.  WBRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. George Interim Mayor Dustin Yates asked voters to help him complete his mission ahead of the city's first election on Saturday + he said he will file legislation in the spring to create a school system, boost public safety, and address flood and infrastructure issues while relying on Police Chief Todd Morris, who is running unopposed.  WBRZ
