- ➤ Baton Rouge’s Taste of Mid City food festival will run from 1-5 p.m., Sunday, March 30, at the Executive Center to offer local food samples, live music and a Kids Zone that supports the Kids’ Orchestra. Tickets cost $35 for adults and $8 for kids and vendors like Barracuda and Elsie’s Plate & Pie will serve food — the event aims to bring families together and support local talent. WVLA
- ➤ Several new local spots opened their doors in March. Boru Ramen reopened on March 3 and now shares a space with Sweet Society and Tiger Clawzzz on Essen Lane while Veracruz Restaurant debuted on Drusilla Lane on March 6 and the new South Branch Library near Rouzan and Sprouts opened on March 24 — a ribbon cutting will follow once finishing touches are complete. 225 Magazine

- ➤ Livingston Parish Sheriff's deputies and a volunteer used rope and electrical tape to remove a 9-foot alligator that broke through a screened porch into a Maurepas home on the Division Canal around 10 p.m. Thursday — they later released the animal safely into the canal. The Advocate
- ➤ A Baton Rouge man, Namoni Black, 34, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter for fatally shooting 54—year—old Eric Johnson in the 800 block of Myrtle Street on Nov. 30 and received a 20—year sentence as prosecutors dropped additional charges while his 10—year animal cruelty sentence was suspended with three—year probation. - ➤ David Gerrell Williams was found guilty of three counts of murder in a Memorial Day pool shooting at the Fairway View Apartments that killed a toddler, a teenager, and a young man in Baton Rouge—and he received three life terms without parole after a weeklong trial. The Advocate

- ➤ BREC Superintendent Corey Wilson announced at a Thursday commission meeting that he will not seek a contract renewal and will answer staff questions at Monday’s town hall meeting. The commission will delay discussing his replacement—State Rep. Dixon McMakin filed two bills that could restructure BREC by changing its commission makeup and transferring its operations to city-parish control. WVLA

- ➤ LSU baseball looked to secure the series win over Mississippi State in Friday night’s game at Alex Box Stadium after rallying from a 6-2 deficit with a five-run fifth inning in Thursday’s match.
