  • Franchise operating partner Cody Loveland will open a second Jeremiah’s Italian Ice in Baton Rouge in June at 4343 S. Sherwood Forest Boulevard, Suite A. He introduced the chain to the area in 2022 with a Highland Road store near LSU that saw 40% year-over-year growth—so he expects this new location to serve a steadier local base.  225 Magazine

  • West Baton Rouge Parish authorities arrested second student Kyle Thurman on felony hazing charges in connection with Southern University student Caleb Wilson’s death, setting his bond at $25,000—earlier, Caleb McCray was arrested for criminal hazing and manslaughter and student Isiah Smith is set to turn himself in today.  WBRZ
  • Seth Guitreau, 21, from Gonzales, was charged with hit-and-run, intoxicated driving and drug offenses after authorities found his badly damaged car on the 14000 block of Coursey Boulevard following a crash that injured one person—another victim was treated at a hospital while his passenger was released.  WVLA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • BRAC’s quarterly report showed that Baton Rouge reached its highest recorded population at 880,000 and added 6,900 non-farm jobs, with the healthcare sector gaining 2,400 positions.   • Hogs House at OLOL Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge opened last February to offer 12 free guest rooms for families with children in treatment and has already served nearly 250 families. The facility, funded by a $2.25 million pledge from Hogs for the Cause, gives families a guest kitchen, communal lounge and backyard—helping them rest while staying near the hospital.  225 Magazine
