  • Twenty local women were honored as 'Trailblazing Women of BR' during a Women’s History Month luncheon on Monday — the event, sponsored by Cumulus Media and MAX 94.1, celebrated leaders from various fields and is expected to inspire future generations in Baton Rouge.  WAFB 9

CRIME NEWS

  • Brynnen Murphy, 23, pleaded guilty to two manslaughter counts and one first-degree feticide count for the deaths of his pregnant girlfriend Kaylen Johnson, 24, and her 2-year-old son Kayden Johnson—he admitted shooting Kaylen on March 5 and reportedly threw Kayden from a car after authorities reported them missing on March 11, 2022.  WVLA
  • Baton Rouge police reported that on Tuesday two people were killed in separate shootings as one victim was fatally shot near La Margie Avenue around 6:30 p.m.—a targeted killing—and an elderly man was fatally shot on Avenue E shortly before 8 p.m.  WBRZ
  • Baton Rouge man Brynnen Murphy pleaded guilty on Tuesday to first-degree feticide and two counts of manslaughter after he shot his pregnant girlfriend Kaylen Johnson in March 2022 and dumped her 2-year-old son off a bridge where the toddler later died from exposure; his sentencing is set for June 10 with a 95-year sentence.  The Advocate

  • April in the Capital Region offers a busy mix of events for all ages; kids learn cooking at BREC’s Chefs R Us on April 3 and 17, live music fills the Baton Rouge Blues Festival from April 4 to 6, and the zoo celebrates its 55th birthday with Zippity Zoo Fest on April 5 and 6. Other highlights include Flower Fest, a book bazaar at LSU’s John M.   • Baton Rouge residents have until April 15 to file their taxes unless they request an extension — the IRS reported receiving 1.1% fewer returns so far and issuing $55 million in refunds as of March 21. Residents should gather their W-2s, 1099s and deduction paperwork before filing online or at a local tax filer.  WBRZ
