  • Baton Rouge rising leaders are shining in areas from climate to education, athletics to health, with TC Nash, Luci Patin, Tatiana Gonzalez Quiroga, Kendrick Henson plus Jacob Loveland leading change.   • LASM is celebrating Artemis II’s launch today from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where four astronauts (three from NASA and one from the Canadian Space Agency) will orbit the moon and prepare for future Mars missions.  WBRZ
  • Friends of the LSU Libraries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their annual Book Bazaar at John M. Parke Agricultural Coliseum from April 16 to 18. A ribbon cutting will take place at 8:45 a.m. on April 16 (the free-admission event sells donated books to support library collections).  225 Magazine
  • The Iota Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International honored chapter president Lynda Smith as its Woman of the Year (2025-2026) during a luncheon on Mar. 18 at LaContea restaurant in Baton Rouge.   • Baton Rouge-area student Logan Michael McCarthy received a $1,500 ‘Most Creative’ scholarship from Dudley DeBosier Injury Lawyers for his video on distracted driving—a project inspired by personal loss; fellow winners include Tafari Beard Jr. and Maliyah Davis in the program.  The Advocate
  • Senate Finance Committee voted six to one Monday to advance SB14, which would let retired teachers return in Baton Rouge while keeping retirement benefits if they meet rules (age criteria, a 12-month wait, and an earnings limit at 50% of prior pay). The bill aims to ease the teacher shortage.  WBRZ

  • A federal judge vacated a permit for a dam in Iberville Parish after crawfishermen reported that the structure (built by Miller Hunting Club in 2021) blocked boat access to key fishing areas, following a suit by the Atchafalaya Basinkeeper.  WBRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Louisiana Department of Health closed its UnitedHealthcare contract and reassigned nearly 280,000 Medicaid members during a Special Enrollment Period from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15, with new plans honoring current care authorizations for 60 days; officials noted that members may change plans if not satisfied.  WAFB 9
