- ➤ LSU's Sigma Chi chapter raised a record-breaking $140,000 at Derby Days, a week-long event featuring a golf tournament and Venmo-a-thon, and donated $126,880 to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center + this fundraiser is the largest men's philanthropy event in LSU history. WBRZ
- ➤ CATS on Demand reversed its initial decision and will now pick up Lisa Gross, a disabled Baton Rouge resident who moved here from the Chicago suburbs to be closer to family, from her driveway. She enrolled last November and received her service ID this week to support her independence. WBRZ
- ➤ On Good Friday, leaders at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church held fish fries to raise money for a new roof for the 107-year-old church (additional fundraisers are planned for fall) to meet a $50,000 goal and support youth programs. WBRZ

- ➤ The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge presents a refugee origin exhibit by K.T.Ho at Shell Gallery featuring 29 works that explore colonialism's effect on her family. The exhibit opens April 27, with an opening reception on May 1 + a discussion on May 3. WBRZ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The school system said diesel now averages $5.22 per gallon and that buying in bulk keeps costs lower (a bus fill costs about $350) but warned persistent high prices could add roughly $120,000 in monthly expenses. WBRZ
- ➤ LSU Student Government elected Benjamin Barousse as president and Anna Katherine Harrell as vice president on Thursday, Apr. 2 in Baton Rouge, and they will take office in June after Lavar Henderson’s term ends (6,560 voters participated). LSU Reveille
- ➤ Southern University graduates contributed significantly to NASA’s Artemis II mission that launched on Apr. 1 from Florida and is scheduled to return next Friday.
