COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Saint Vincent de Paul community pharmacy celebrated 30 years of service by helping over 1,000 Baton Rouge residents get medication and free hygiene bags. It operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and plans to expand its outreach by opening new locations in Hammond and Gonzales.  The Advocate
  • Yesterday, the fourth annual Stop the Violence Easter Bash honored local children lost to violence. The event held memorials for Keddrick Turner (13, shot in 2023), LaDerica Stewart (22, hit in 2025) and Alexis Hamilton as families shared food, music and games to encourage youth engagement.  WBRZ
  • Companion Animal Alliance of Baton Rouge invites volunteers to take a shelter dog on a date today with a $5 donation to help connect dogs with adopters. Anyone 18+ with a valid photo ID can drop by during business hours.  WAFB 9

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A grease fire destroyed a unit at Broadmoor Plantation Apartments Saturday night, displacing nine residents (including four children); firefighters arrived before 9 p.m. and a neighbor is helping gather essentials like school clothes.  WBRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 16, Louisiana voters will decide whether to form a new St. George school district that will become the state’s 70th starting in July 2027—students will keep access to Baton Rouge magnet programs if approved.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Tangipahoa Parish's Tyner Creek Bridge is closed for a replacement operation, and drivers must follow detour routes via La. 40, U.S. 51 and La. 16 (DOTD says the closure runs through September).  WBRZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Baton Rouge Zydeco players hosted a meet and greet at Dick’s Sporting Goods this past weekend, where families learned about hockey’s growing appeal and the team outlined plans to visit local schools; they will return home on April 9 at Raising Cane’s River Center.  LSU Reveille
  • Cade Arrambide broke LSU’s record by hitting four home runs as the Tigers rallied to beat Tennessee 16-6 in extra innings & secured a crucial SEC series win. The game featured injuries and an ejection before his grand slam turned the tide.  WBRZ
