  • Steppin' 4 Autism held a basketball tournament on Sunday, April 6th to raise money for a free inclusive basketball camp for children with autism—organizer Deon Farr said each child received a basketball and lunch at the event.  WBRZ

  • Baton Rouge police said a vehicle went off the roadway on Southbound Interstate 110 around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6 — one person died and traffic was held until a tow truck cleared the crash at about 6:45 p.m.  WBRZ

  • Local butcher shop owner Galen Iverstine said Guy Fieri visited his family-run Iverstine Butcher during Super Bowl weekend filming to spotlight the shop's all-from-scratch cooking. The Food Network episode will air on Friday, April 18 at 8 p.m. + a second segment featuring Dempsey's will run on April 11 at 8 p.m.  WBRZ

CRIME NEWS

  • A jury found a man guilty on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.  WAFB 9
  • A Baton Rouge man, identified as Darius Gaines, 24, was arrested for allegedly robbing an acquaintance at gunpoint in a hotel room on Corporate Boulevard and later selling the stolen car on Facebook Marketplace—he was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison after being caught by the U.S. Marshals Task Force.  WBRZ

  • Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry announced plans to request a federal waiver to ban soda from SNAP benefits—part of a broad nutrition bill by State Sen. Patrick McMath that will also ban ultraprocessed school foods, seed oils and require nutrition training for doctors.  The Advocate

  • A Baton Rouge Clinic pediatrician advised parents to prepare for Easter (when many families gather) by following simple health and safety steps to keep children safe. He explained that careful planning and routine checks can help prevent problems during the busy holiday.  WAFB 9
