COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in the 225 area code must cast their votes for the 2026 Best of 225 Awards by tomorrow, April 8 — winners will appear in the July issue.  225 Magazine
  • On March 28, over 100 parish residents attended a marker dedication at Veterans Memorial Park Pavilion to honor longtime volunteers Jack and Janice Watson and Vietnam veterans during a Welcome Home event. The Watsons’ decades of work on park improvements were recognized (the pavilion is now named The Watson Pavilion).  The Advocate
  • The Laugh Olympics Community Event, organized by Michael Bradley (a three-time transplant recipient), will be held on Saturday, April 25 at the WAG Center in Donaldsonville from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will offer games, food, and local vendors for families.  The Advocate
  • Redstick CARES is hosting its annual Crawfish Cookoff later this week — Jannean Dixon shared details about the event, where Baton Rouge residents can enjoy fresh crawfish and a lively community celebration.  WAFB 9

  • Livingston Parish Library announced its April book club selections, offering fiction, mystery and nonfiction titles for adults at five branches including Watson (April 14, 10 a.m.) and South Branch (April 30, 5:30 p.m.) to spark community discussions on new reads.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser visited 2une In Monday to boost preparations for next week’s Love the Boot Week, an event to make communities cleaner and more beautiful. The initiative runs from April 18 to April 26 and aims to build on last year’s high volunteer turnout & local impact.  WBRZ
  • Louisiana now issues tickets for littering under a new law with fines of $175 to $1,000 plus court fees and work program requirements—15 cases are already set for litter court in September. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser plans to boost cleanup efforts with an adopt a highway proposal.  WAFB 9

  • The former Solera space (4205 Perkins Rd) will welcome diners with its new eatery Southdowns Grille, opening Tuesday, Apr. 14 for lunch and dinner. Longtime partners Dykes and the Clarks will offer upscale comfort food, craft cocktails and live music in a refreshed setting.  225 Magazine

SPORTS NEWS

  • Angel Reese, a former LSU champion and two-time All-Star, was traded from the Chicago Sky to the Atlanta Dream on Monday — the deal sends 2027 and 2028 first-round picks to Chicago along with 2028 second-round swap rights.  WAFB 9
  • LSU women's basketball lost two players as Divine Bourrage and Kailyn Gilbert entered the transfer portal. They played 29 games last season, and Gilbert left the team in November due to family issues.  WBRZ
  • LSU Baseball beat Tennessee 16-6 in a 12-inning game in Knoxville as Cade Arrambide hit four homers while Gavin Guidry earned the relief win. The Tigers will host Bethune-Cookman tomorrow night.  WJBO
  • Championship week for high school bowling begins tomorrow with girls team semifinals and finals at Premier Lanes in Gonzales, followed by boys titles on Thursday and singles finals on Friday at All Star Lanes in Baton Rouge. Eighty-one boys and 48 girls compete in four games to earn a spot.  WBRZ
  • Caroline Bradley, the No. 1 center in America for the class of 2027, verbally committed to LSU during a crawfish boil on Monday, April 6. The five-star recruit & Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year chose LSU over offers from South Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, UCLA & Duke.  WAFB 9
