  • Southern University hosted a public watch party Friday evening at P.B.S. Pinchback Auditorium to view NASA’s Artemis II splashdown far off the coast of San Diego — the four-person Orion crew set a record by reaching 252,000 miles from Earth, and the event highlighted the school’s legacy through student involvement.  WAFB 9
  • Baton Rouge’s Office of Community Development hosted a fair housing workshop yesterday at the Baton Rouge Garden Center where landlords and tenants learned about their rights and responsibilities.  WBRZ
  • Voting is open now for the 18th annual Dancing for Big Buddy fundraiser featuring WBRZ's April Davis, with each $20 vote supporting local youth mentorship at PMAC. The event will be held on April 25 at 6 p.m.  WBRZ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Thursday morning, April 9, firefighters responded to a blaze on Marcellious Lane after a working smoke alarm (alerted the homeowner) who escaped safely while the house suffered heavy damage.  WAFB 9

  • Live After Five returns to downtown Baton Rouge as free outdoor concerts bring live music + food vendors and local arts together for an enjoyable evening. Residents and visitors can look forward to an engaging outing in the heart of the city.  WAFB 9

  • Rep. Steve Scalise toured Venture Global’s 630-acre LNG terminal in Port Sulphur on Friday, April 10, highlighting its growth from a cow pasture to a major export site. The visit underscored local energy strength amid ongoing global supply challenges.  The Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LSU's Caribbean Student Association (CSA), led by sophomore Irva Laurore, is working to create a home-like campus community for Caribbean students and anyone interested in Caribbean culture by hosting events and casual meetups. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Baker Mayor Darnell Waites has proposed a temporary ban on new hair salons, barbershops and tire shops along Main Street and Plank Road to help attract a wider mix of businesses; the ordinance will be considered at the city council meeting Tuesday, April 14.  WAFB 9

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Francis Medical Group hosted a blessing of the soil and groundbreaking on Thursday, Apr. 9 for its new Internal Medicine Clinic, marking a key step in expanding local health care.  WAFB 9

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ava Doucet, a senior at St. Joseph’s Academy, won the girls LHSAA state singles bowling championship at All Star in Baton Rouge after rolling a 222 to edge Addison Belle (she will join the UAB bowling team in the fall).  WBRZ
  • LSU senior Flau’jae Johnson is invited to the WNBA Draft in New York on April 13, with the event airing live on ESPN. She was honored in Baton Rouge for her role in LSU’s national championship run and now looks to advance her basketball career.  WAFB 9
  • Delta Airlines will add more than 40 flights to serve LSU away games during the 2026 season. The airline will run nonstop flights on Sept. 4 & 6, Oct. 9 & 11, Nov. 6 & 8, Nov. 13 & 15, and Nov. 20 & 22 for travel to key matchups.  WBRZ
