ECONOMY NEWS

  • Researchers at Tulane and UMass found that in Louisiana petrochemical jobs, people of color hold far fewer top-paying roles and more low-paying positions than expected. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A black bear was seen wandering near Grace Baptist Church on Monday morning in Zachary after a resident stopped his truck to snap a photo along Highway 19, and police alerted the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. • Crews are battling several small brush fires along railroad tracks on Nicholson Drive today. Officials closed the road between Gardere and Ben Hur while urging drivers to use alternate routes and to dispose of cigarettes properly.  WAFB 9
  • A jury in Plaquemines Parish found Chevron liable for $745 million to restore our coastal wetlands, marking the first trial in a series of lawsuits led by attorney John Carmouche—Chevron said it will appeal the verdict. Legal experts expect a lengthy appeals process and see the decision as a key step toward more claims against oil companies for Louisiana’s coastal loss.  The Advocate
