COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Geaux Seven Chapter of Blue Star Moms of America cleaned up a veteran memorial in Central on April 19 as part of Love the Boot Week, planting flowers and displaying American flags to honor service men and women. They will host another cleanup event on May 16. WBRZ
- ➤ The LSU Red Cross Club and community volunteers installed free smoke alarms for Baton Rouge residents on Saturday, Apr. 18 as part of their Sound the Alarm campaign. They also helped families create fire escape plans as part of the Red Cross's year-round effort to prevent home fires. WBRZ
- ➤ A duck was hit by a car in the Arbor Walk subdivision, and residents are urging Community Management to install speed bumps to help slow traffic and protect kids, pets, and pedestrians. The public works director explained that liability concerns make speed bumps on public roads difficult to install + alternatives are being considered. WBRZ

- ➤ Educators often use sick days or take a pay cut when welcoming a new child; Senate Bill 157 proposes six weeks of fully paid parental leave for teachers and will return to the Senate floor today — drawing mixed responses from school boards and staff. WBRZ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ After their son died from a mislabeled fentanyl overdose and his wife later took her own life, a Baton Rouge family now raises his child and warns locals about drug dangers (a documentary crew plans to share their story soon in southeast Louisiana). WBRZ
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ LSU baseball has not won an SEC game in over two weeks as the Tigers were swept at home by a top 10 Texas A and M team. They failed to lead in three games and now hold a 6-12 record ahead of next weekend's series at Mississippi State in Starkville. WBRZ
- ➤ LSU softball moved to .500 in SEC play after sweeping Ole Miss 8-5 (their first series sweep this season) with key plays from Tori Edwards. The Tigers will face Mississippi State in Starkville next weekend (after a game where four Rebel home runs tested their defense). WBRZ
- ➤ LSU gymnastics families have shared heartfelt stories of sacrifice and support behind their athletes (including long travels and tight schedules) to build a resilient program. Their dedication has helped create a competitive team that values hard work and strong character. LSU Reveille
- ➤ LSU baseball was swept by a top 10 Texas A&M team in a three-game SEC series that ended 5-2, leaving the Tigers winless for over two weeks. The team will face Mississippi State next weekend in Starkville (their next SEC series). WBRZ
- ➤ Baton Rouge runners participated in the Tiger 10K race on Sunday (held in Death Valley). The event gave local athletes a chance to challenge themselves beyond their usual training grounds. WBRZ
