CRIME NEWS

  • The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating a break-in at a business on N. 10th Street (occurring Sunday, April 13 in the afternoon) and is asking anyone with tips to call Crime Stoppers (225) 344-7867.  WBRZ
  • Baton Rouge Police homicide detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened early Sunday morning at 3:04 a.m. at Super 6 Inns and Suites at 9901 Gwenadele Ave—officers encountered a 34-year-old man in the parking lot, exchanged gunfire, and the man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased while the officers were placed on administrative leave.  The Advocate
  • Baton Rouge Police arrested Daniel Westley, 39—who has a long criminal history including homicide and kidnapping—for the April 1 shooting death of James Williams in the 10,000 block of Avenue E, booking him on counts of first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.  The Advocate
  • The second suspect in a fiber optic cable theft that left Sunshine and St. Gabriel residents without service in late 2024 was arrested in Iowa and returned on a 14-hour trip to Iberville Parish—Gregory Doster fled after a warrant was issued and now faces charges of felony theft over $25,000 and criminal damage to property—another suspect from St. Rose was also booked.  WVLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Election day in the Baton Rouge region will be May 3 and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.—early voting will run until Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Absentee ballots must be requested by April 29—4:30 p.m. and received by May 2—4:30 p.m. while the ballot will include several property tax propositions and candidate races.  The Advocate
