- ➤ Baton Rouge’s City Park Master Plan shows two designs that update the old nine-hole golf course by adding a putting green, mini golf and a restaurant. A public meeting is scheduled for June 11 for community input, and costs may reach $50 to $100 million over the next 20 years. The Advocate

- ➤ At the Zachary Community School Board meeting on April 21, the board honored top students and coaches for academic and athletic achievements before summer break. Superintendent Ben Necaise presented trophies and a cookie cake to designated award winners from several schools. The Advocate
- ➤ Jared Peters, a 10th grader at Live Oak High School from Livingston Parish, won the 2026 National ‘Yes I Can’ Award for Self-Advocacy on March 13 in Salt Lake City — his achievement highlights his academic success and personal resilience. The Advocate
- ➤ River Parishes Community College will introduce a new electrical concentration in its energy sciences program this fall. The program offers academic instruction along with hands-on training & NCCER certifications pending approval to prepare students for industrial careers. The Advocate
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Louisiana legislature is considering House Bill 682 (which would let honorably discharged veterans serve as school resource officers after they complete background checks and minimum training). Representative Kellee Dickerson from Baton Rouge says the measure will improve school safety while freeing police for other duties. WJBO
- ➤ Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana State Historic Preservation Office opened the application period for the 2026-2027 Historic Preservation Fund Grant to support projects such as surveys, training, and digital preservation. Proposals will be reviewed in June and award notifications will come in late August. The Advocate
- ➤ Central City Hall welcomed residents Tuesday, Apr. 28 with guided tours and meet-and-greets offered from (3-5 p.m.) at 11530 Sullivan Road to introduce its new facility for community events. WAFB 9
