- ➤ Willie Wells Jr., 32, was arrested Saturday on charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and firearm possession after deputies with a K9 unit located him regarding the April 5 killing of Antonio Famularo—an incident reportedly tied to a drug dispute. WBRZ
- ➤ Montrel Alexander, a 32-year-old suspect, was arrested on Friday for two armed robberies in Mid-City after witness statements, video footage and cell phone data linked him to the incidents, and he was booked for armed robbery and second-degree battery. WBRZ
- ➤ Bradley Stracener went missing on Oct. 30 when he left his mother’s Leesville apartment to return his girlfriend’s car—detectives in Vernon Parish have found no credible leads in the five-year search while his family and a private investigator push for more answers. The Advocate
- ➤ Two people were injured in a shooting outside a Winbourne Avenue and Eaton Street apartment complex on Friday (9:40 p.m.) when a man in a car was shot several times and a female passenger was grazed as she stepped out, with both in stable condition at the hospital and Mayor-President Sid Edwards at the scene while police search for a suspect and motive. - ➤ Southern University alumni hosted their 10th annual crawfish boil on May 3 on Mayberry Lawn to raise money for scholarships for incoming students in East Baton Rouge Parish — vendors set up tents where guests enjoyed music, dancing, and crawfish. WBRZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Early voting counts showed 57 percent of East Baton Rouge Parish voters opposed a proposed 4-mill property tax — a measure that would cost households about $5 monthly and generate $24 million each year for District Attorney Hillar Moore's office. Moore said the tax would boost his budget from $16 million to about $26 million, help clear a backlog of 11,050 cases, and return roughly $8.7 million annually to the parish general fund. - ➤ Former LSU players Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith returned to the bayou with the Chicago Sky on Friday and led the team to an 89-62 win over the Brazil National Team.
