  • U.S. Chief Judge Shelly D. Dick sentenced five men for a drug trafficking conspiracy that distributed heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine in Iberville and nearby parishes—another man received 15 years in a related case—while law enforcement credited a coordinated federal, state, and local effort for dismantling the network.  WAFB 9
  • Brandon Searles disarmed an alleged bank robber who bit him and threatened customers at Regions Bank (Sherwood Forest) when the suspect (51) demanded cash and brandished a gun, holding him until Baton Rouge Police arrived while Searles, who is applying to join the police academy, said he would do it again if needed.  WAFB 9
  • The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation arrested Melissa Araujo for felony government benefits fraud after an anonymous tip and bank records showed she misreported her income — over $55,000 in benefits were claimed while her deposits and property purchases pointed to high earnings — and she was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.  WAFB 9
