- ➤ Lt. Murray Lirette (102) was honored on Saturday in Baton Rouge when the Honorary Consul for Belgium awarded him a knighthood for his World War II service. He is one of the last survivors of the Bloody Hundredth crew shot down over Belgium. WBRZ
- ➤ St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge opened its first upscale resale thrift store, Rosalie's Boutique (at 5555 Government St.) yesterday morning. The boutique offers vintage apparel, home décor, and unique finds while supporting community services. WBRZ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences graduated LSU Saturday morning — with former basketball star Shaquille O’Neal earning a master’s in liberal arts — and the College of Science and Engineering held their ceremonies later that day. WBRZ
- ➤ LSU graduated its largest class ever on May 15, 2026, awarding more than 5,700 degrees (including over 4,200 bachelor's and 1,069 master’s) across two days at Maddox Fieldhouse and other campus venues in Baton Rouge. - ➤ Hammond — Southeastern students graduating from the College of Business and Nursing and Health Sciences were encouraged by guest speaker Hayley Arceneaux, a former St. Jude patient who flew with Inspiration4, at their graduation ceremony Saturday. WBRZ

- ➤ Baton Rouge voters on Saturday moved U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow into a Senate runoff by awarding her 45% of the vote amid a contest where John Fleming and Bill Cassidy received 28% and 25% respectively — Cassidy congratulated his opponents after the vote. WBRZ
