- ➤ On May 10, more than 75 volunteers cleaned up a homeless encampment at Industriplex Park by removing hundreds of pounds of needles, mattresses & shopping carts from a site that has troubled locals for years. - ➤ A judge declared accused serial killer Ryan Joseph Sharpe mentally fit for trial after two doctors evaluated him Tuesday - his trial for Carroll Breeden Sr.'s murder is set to resume November 17 in East Baton Rouge Parish. The Advocate
- ➤ Police apprehended escaped inmate Corey Boyd, 19, on Tuesday May 20 on the 1400 block of Iberville Street at around 7:30 p.m. after FBI agents tracked him down & he will be booked into a secure state facility on simple escape charges while five other inmates remain at large. The Advocate
- ➤ Deputies said 22-year-old mother Kayelyn Ford, who had a restraining order against her ex Brandon Bell following an April attack, was fatally shot Monday when Bell ambushed her as she left her apartment after calling 911—raising questions about the effectiveness of legal protections. WBRZ

- ➤ Historians say that a fire nearly a week ago at Nottoway Plantation has led to talks about its past and the legacy of slavery.
