CULTURE NEWS

  • Tyler Bourque and his father Tim Bourque won the World Champion Jambalaya Cook title at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center Sunday night after three days of intense cooking (the festival also featured bingo games, carnival rides, races and vendor booths).  The Advocate
  • Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre's Youth Ballet will stage Ballet Soiree for free at local libraries from June 2 to June 10, featuring excerpts from Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and Cinderella performed by 38 dancers who learn teamwork and ballet skills in a 30-minute story ballet & perform throughout the community.  WBRZ
  • Residents will honor fallen service members with several Memorial Day events on Monday.   • In Lake Providence, high-speed fiber plans stalled in early May after a dispute between the state broadband office & Conexon left community leaders frustrated.   • Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge is testing an AI wearable monitor called the Oli monitor by Baymatob to detect early signs of postpartum hemorrhage during labor. The global study aims to enroll 1,000 women and may boost safety for mothers in Louisiana (over 12% hemorrhage rate).  WAFB 9
