CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A steel beam from the Twin Towers visited LSU yesterday at 10 a.m. when the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Steel Across America tour stopped at Memorial Hall. The 16,000-pound artifact marked the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and will return to Ground Zero on Sept. 11. WBRZ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kelly Adkinson, a visual arts teacher at Baton Rouge Center for Visual and Performing Arts, was named national Arts Schools Network Teacher of the Year (announced Tuesday by EBR Schools). She will be formally recognized at the Arts Schools Network conference in San Diego. WBRZ
- ➤ A Baton Rouge kitchen offers hour-and-a-half cooking classes for kids (including lessons on making homemade pasta) in a space built by Audriane Williams that draws on her childhood to teach lifelong cooking skills. WBRZ
- ➤ EBR School System has detailed plans to offer free breakfast and lunch for children this summer through its No Cost Summer Feeding Program. The meals will be available at designated sites across the district with pickup times announced soon. WBRZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new drought monitor report shows major improvements across Baton Rouge as the Metro Airport now records a net surplus of rain. Some areas near the coast — notably Morgan City and Houma — remain in moderate drought while storms are expected through early next week. WBRZ
- ➤ Today, Love the Boot Week set a new record as 28,079 volunteers removed 566 tons of litter across 64 parishes while logging 77,648 cleanup hours and recycling nearly 10,000 bottles and cans — officials will launch Love Our Waterways in June to boost waterway cleanups. WBRZ

- ➤ Yesterday, local officials led by Mayor-President Sid Edwards broke ground on the Terrace Avenue MovEBR project between Highland and Perkins roads to improve sidewalks, add routes for pedestrians and bicycles, and reshape the roadway to slow traffic, with an estimated cost of $10 million. WBRZ
