- ➤ EBR Superintendent LaMont Cole supports a proposed budget that would raise starting teacher pay by $6,000 and fund school safety upgrades (which include AI-powered metal detectors); a public hearing is set for June 4 at 1050 South Foster Drive, with board vote on June 11 and increases effective July 1. - ➤ Southern University’s beloved emotional support husky, Skye, died Tuesday at age 7. The dog assisted campus police and counselors and will be honored with a memorial later on campus (cremation services were donated by an alumnus). WBRZ
- ➤ After McKinley High ended its graduation ceremony early when several students danced on stage, East Baton Rouge Parish School System Superintendent Lamont Cole plans to form a task force to study the issue — he will hold community discussions to balance tradition with order before next year's graduations. - ➤ St. George Fire Department unveiled two new trucks Thursday (each costing $250,000 and built by Skeeter Emergency Vehicles) to rescue people from floods and fight wildfires by pumping 300 gallons per minute. - ➤ The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport will receive nearly $11M in federal grants to replace its terminal and update the baggage system. The funding, part of a larger $523M program for airfield upgrades across 43 states, is expected to boost local travel efficiency. WJBO
