- ➤ The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office arrested more than a dozen alleged gang members for suspected involvement in multiple shootings and drug trafficking across the area — officers seized over 36 pounds of marijuana, numerous firearms, and cash during a multi-agency probe, and one suspect remains at large. - ➤ On Tuesday, 44-year-old Ronn Jermaine Bell stood before an evenly split jury at the 19th Judicial District Courthouse as he faced a second-degree murder charge for killing civil rights activist Sadie Roberts-Joseph—prosecutors say he suffocated the 75-year-old over $1,200 in unpaid rent and his DNA tied him to the scene where her car was found behind an abandoned house. - ➤ Richard Ellis, 44, was arrested Tuesday after a foot chase in Baton Rouge when he broke into an apartment on Alice Street and threatened to kill a woman if she did not perform a sex act — officers said he is also booked on charges from a May 15 attack on a pregnant woman and is held without bond at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
