Officials responded Saturday morning to a house fire in Brusly — the flames destroyed the roof of the home.

Accused murderer Ronn Bell's trial continued Friday morning nearly five years after he was accused of killing Baton Rouge activist Sadie Roberts-Joseph as defense attorney Randy Dukes challenged the police investigation and evidence, and the trial resumed Saturday at 9 a.m.

Deputies responded to a call in Denham Springs on June 7 when 20-year-old Trevor Borne allegedly shot a man in the ear during an argument — he was later found in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked on one count of attempted second-degree murder.

LSU has been in a hiring freeze since March 28, and Interim President Matt Lee said the pause will end on July 1—matching the state’s executive branch measures led by Gov. Jeff Landry.

The freeze slowed hiring for many positions, including student workers, and officials remain cautiously optimistic about restarting recruitment.
