  • On June 14, hundreds gathered downtown in Baton Rouge for the 'No Kings' protest that joined similar demonstrations across the country – the event brought a local voice to a national movement.  WAFB 9
  • BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo has announced that it will add new animals and make other updates in time for summer — the changes will refresh exhibits and enhance the visitor experience. The zoo said the improvements are planned to be rolled out over the coming weeks.  WAFB 9
  • WBRZ won four awards from the Society of Professional Journalists’ Louisiana Professional Chapter for its 2024 coverage, including a grand prize for Television Journalism for Hurricane Francine and first-place recognition for Multimedia Report. Sylvia Weatherspoon received first place for her feature on an unlikely friendship — while Investigative Reporting for a series on issues at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center earned second place.  WBRZ

  • EBR Schools approved a realignment plan that closed seven district schools—affecting about 250 staff—and reconfigured others, displacing hundreds more; the Human Resources Department held a job fair on May 8 and now offers online office hours to help roughly 700 employees find new jobs before the new school year begins on Aug. 7.  The Advocate

  • Doctors in Louisiana and nationwide are seeing more strokes in young adults—experts say rising risks like high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes are to blame. They urge quick care and regular checkups to help lower stroke risk and improve recovery.  The Advocate

  • Lafayette native Mondo Duplantis, an LSU alum, broke his pole vault world record by clearing 6.28 meters at a Diamond League meet in Stockholm on Sunday—he improved his previous mark by one centimeter for his 12th record.  The Advocate
  • LSU Tiger baseball players spent Father's Day weekend in Omaha enjoying dinner and time with their dads before their next game at the College World Series. They will face UCLA on Monday at 6 p.m. on ESPN—an event that shows the team's strong family support.  WBRZ
  • Former LSU pitcher Paul Skenes will attend LSU's College World Series game against UCLA today in Omaha while on a day off from his work with the Pirates—his team will begin a series in Detroit on Tuesday and he is set to start against the Tigers on Thursday.  The Advocate
