COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Companion Animal Alliance in Baton Rouge is asking for emergency fosters today to care for at least 70 dogs at its shelter at 2550 Gourrier Avenue — fosters must commit to two weeks as the shelter cares for over 270 dogs and 200 cats and has admitted over 300 animals since last Monday.  WAFB 9
  • Air Products donated $175,000 from its Lake Maurepas Community Fund to the Manchac Volunteer Fire Department to buy a backup generator, upgrade its station, add a new boat engine and trailer, and convert a truck bay into a training room for first responder classes—an effort designed to boost safety on and around Lake Maurepas.  The Advocate

  • A Baton Rouge man named Gad Black aged 41 was arrested Monday near Joor Road at 11 a.m. after allegedly ramming Sgt. Caleb Eisworth with his pickup truck and now faces charges including attempted first degree murder and hate crime—while his girlfriend Asia Raby aged 40 was booked on obstruction of justice and as an accessory after the fact.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Representatives from Louisiana’s largest hospitals met on Capitol Hill Tuesday after Senate leaders released a 549-page bill proposing deeper Medicaid cuts than the House version. Paul A. Salles, president of the Louisiana Hospital Association, warned that if the new cuts are adopted, rural hospitals may lose critical funding from state-directed payments—potentially dropping support from $245 million to as low as $128 million—while Senate votes are expected next week.  The Advocate
