  • On Wednesday, a magistrate denied bond for the 41-year-old man accused of ramming his truck into a motorcycle cop while ordering a sanity commission for a Sept. 3 bond review — his 40-year-old girlfriend was arrested on charges of obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact for attempted first-degree murder.  The Advocate

  • On June 18, a LendingTree report showed that Louisiana had an average home insurance cost of $4,022, which is 44% above the national average and rose 31.8% over six years plus 6.9% in the past year; nationwide, rates increased 40.4% over six years and 21.1% of Louisiana homes were uninsured.  WVLA

  • A mural honoring late former Mayor Kip Holden will be dedicated this weekend—celebrating his legacy as the first Black mayor-president of East Baton Rouge Parish. The dedication takes place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Jewel J. Newman Community Center.  WBRZ
  • BREC won the Park and Recreation Facility Class III Award from the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials on June 12 in Detroit for its new Howell Park Recreation Center and pool project — the accolade marks BREC’s 14th NACPRO honor since 2002 and reflects the facility’s superior design and community impact.  WVLA
