CRIME NEWS

  • Baton Rouge Police arrested a man aged 27, Eriq Overstreet, for allegedly shooting victim Marion Brown on Longridge Avenue after a verbal dispute that left Brown dead early Monday, June 23 — he was booked for second-degree murder.  WBRZ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Entergy is transferring its natural gas operations to Delta Utilities, so over 96,000 residents will start receiving gas in July. Customers must create new online accounts and re-enroll in billing programs when the switch occurs—some programs will transfer automatically.  The Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southern University will add a digital arts program this fall that offers a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media Arts. The new program is a joint effort by the Department of Visual and Performing Arts and the Department of Mass Communication—approved by the Louisiana Board of Regents—and students must meet with an advisor before registering.  WVLA
  • Iberville Parish school district raised starting teacher pay to $60,506 after a $4,000 increase was approved in May, and returning teachers can earn up to $94,146 with added stipends. Other Baton Rouge area districts have also upped teacher salaries to over $50,000—some set to review additional raise options in July.  The Advocate

  • Louisiana officials filed three lawsuits against CVS Health in Opelousas on Tuesday after the company sent texts to residents to oppose a bill that would have limited its retail operations — the suits allege misuse of personal contact information and abuse of the pharmacy benefits manager system.  WBRZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU Baseball players Anthony Eyanson, Chase Shores and Chris Stanfield spoke to the media after winning the National Championship and adding the program's eighth title—Eyanson had a strong day on the mound while Shores struck out numerous hitters and Stanfield hit a key 2-RBI single. The trio will head back to Baton Rouge with their earned trophy.  LSU Reveille
  • LSU baseball players and coach Jay Johnson worked a shift at Raising Cane’s on Highland Road from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday—providing an early lunch for fans— as they prepare for the National Championship celebration tonight.  WBRZ
  • LSU’s legendary coach D.D. Breaux is featured on 70 for 70 on Channel 2 this week—she built the gymnastics team into a national powerhouse and inspired young gymnasts before Title IX.  WBRZ
