ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A DOTD worker repairing an overhead traffic light in Livingston Parish was hit by an 18-wheeler while in a utility bucket on Wednesday, June 25—Denham Springs police reported the truck was turning left near I-12 and South Range Ave just before 1:10 p.m., and the worker suffered minor injuries.  WVLA

  • Pilot opened its new travel stop in Port Allen yesterday — and donated $20,000 to West Baton Rouge Parish Schools to boost STEM programs for local students. CRIME NEWS

  • Today, a federal judge vacated Todd Kelvin Wessinger's death sentence for the 1995 killing of two restaurant workers in Baton Rouge and ordered a new penalty trial—state officials have filed a notice of appeal to challenge the decision.  The Advocate
  • Roland Domino, 60, was formally charged with second-degree murder after allegedly shooting his ex, Patricia Jackson, outside Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center on March 19 and attempting suicide on the Mississippi River Bridge; he is set for a bond review on July 7.  WBRZ

  • A mural has been dedicated to former Mayor-President Kip Holden (the first African American to lead East Baton Rouge Parish) to honor his lasting legacy.  WAFB 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senate parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled on Thursday that some GOP Medicaid proposals did not follow Senate rules—this decision worried Louisiana hospital leaders who fear that over $2 billion may be cut from rural hospital funds. Louisiana senators say that now 60 votes will be needed to pass the bill, a change that could delay its passage as Senate leaders work to meet a weekend deadline.  The Advocate
