ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Baton Rouge police said Michael Young, 54, was driving the wrong way on I-110 South early Saturday, July 5 when his car hit another vehicle, killing him and injuring Darrell Batiste, 32, who was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries — authorities said.  WBRZ
  • On Saturday morning, a home on Somerset Street caught fire after the homeowner set off fireworks inside—firefighters arrived at 7:15 a.m. and contained the flames to the kitchen and living room in about 30 minutes.  WBRZ

CRIME NEWS

  • Baton Rouge Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting early Saturday at 3:42 a.m. on Washington Avenue where a 38-year-old man carrying a sharp object was fatally shot—both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.  WVLA
  • An 18-year-old died and another was hurt at a Fourth of July party on Dave Miller Road in Geismar when a fight turned into gunfire; authorities said a juvenile suspect will face charges of second-degree murder & illegal use of weapons, & possessing a handgun as the investigation continues.  WVLA
  • An 18-year-old, Justin Scott, was fatally shot in Geismar on July 4th at a residence after an altercation led to an exchange of gunfire with a juvenile who was injured and will be arrested on charges including second-degree murder—authorities said the investigation is ongoing.  The Advocate
