- ➤ Rebekah Prevost survived a lightning strike in Broadmoor last Thursday around 5 p.m.—she suffered bruises, stitches, and other injuries near a struck tree while returning from grocery shopping and credited her faith for her survival as she recovers at home. WBRZ
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Deputies in Livingston Parish are asking for help to locate Duncan Roberson, 63, who went missing Monday, July 7 near Rushing Road in Denham Springs after reportedly skipping his medication and is believed to be driving a beige 2000 Chevrolet S-10 (license plate Y460055) as anyone with information is urged to call the sheriff's office (225-686-2241 x1). - ➤ St. Gabriel Police Captain Devin Boutte was found dead after being stabbed twice in his bedroom on Legion Drive, and Iberville Sheriff Brett Stassi said he had asked the Attorney General to probe corruption allegations involving Boutte ten days before his murder — with accused killer Warren Mitchell III later confessing to the fatal attack. - ➤ Iberville Parish deputies arrested Warren Mitchell, III on a second-degree murder charge for the fatal stabbing of Captain Devin “Curly” Boutee—he was found dead at a home on Legion Drive on Sunday morning. WJBO
- ➤ Baton Rouge police arrested a wanted 15-year-old who escaped from Bridge City Youth Center and a 19-year-old suspect, Lawrence Journee, on July 7 after a chase near St. Gerard Avenue—both were found carrying machine guns, a Glock handgun, and drugs and now face charges including firearm offenses and resisting an officer. - ➤ Baker police said a suspect was taken into custody after a shooting around 6:10 p.m. on Seville Avenue near Groom Road on Monday, July 7th that left one person dead and another injured—investigators are looking into the case. WAFB 9

- ➤ For-profit charter school giant Charter Schools USA announced that it will open two new learning pods this fall in St. George and Zachary — a move that expands its operations in the area. The St. George pod at the former Cypress Heights Academy campus is expected to serve about 150 prekindergarten to 12th-grade students while the Zachary pod, set up in a space leased from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, will serve up to 200 students.
